What is Joyces perception Essay In the Dubliners Joyce trails the children in his stories from childhood to maturity gradually increasing in age from one story to the next. The characters in the first three stories are young enough to still entertain hopes and dreams of their adult lives and the adventures and experiences that they might have. These first three stories The Sisters, An Encounter and Araby are all set in the childhood stages of life. In all three of these stories the children come across as young, innocent and very nai ve. Each one of the children in each of the stories learns or discovers at least one thing about the adult world that they live in. There are three words that describe the childhood world in Dublin at this time perfectly and they are isolation, paralysis and entrapment. In The Sisters the boy discovers the reality of death when a close adult friend of his dies. At the beginning of the story he is intrigued by the world paralysis, It filled me with fear, and yet I longed to be nearer it and to look upon its deadly work. This boy had not come across the idea of confinement to one particular place or room like the dying priest was on his deathbed and the idea was a strange one for him. He wanted to understand it and when the priest dies the child grows to understand the idea a bit better. The priest is said to have taught him a great deal, mind you; and they say he had a great wish for him. The priest assumed that the boy would want to go into the church without any discussion or ideas from the boy, this shows that during this time in Dublin the youth were guided by the adults around them, they followed on doing the same job as them. The children of this time just thought that this is what happened and they didnt have the choice of what they wanted to do as they entered adulthood, this is an example of entrapment in childhood. In An Encounter the boy discovers the corruption of the adult world. As a child the boy believes that all adults are trusted. The boy meets this stranger and the man takes an unusual liking to the boy and pays a strange amount of attention to him. There seems to be a sexual nature about the attention that he is paying to the boy and the boy does not see this at the beginning and speaks to the man about literature and school punishments but then the boy seem to understand that this is not the way that most adults have spoken to him before and he sees that something is strange about this and so tries to get away from the man. He had not seen this side of the adult world before and he then did not know how to react towards the people around him, he understands that not everyone is to be trusted. The boy in Araby has just discovered a girl that he has strong feelings for. He wants to please the girl and so he agrees that he will go to the bazaar on the other side of Dublin and buy her a present. From the story it seems that she is a bit older than the boy and seems to have had more experience of people of the other sex and knows how to manipulate the boy and enjoys how much she knows the boy likes her. In this story the boy discovers the opposite sex and the circulation that relationships and the opposite sex themselves can lead you into. The boy was so determined to go to the bazaar just to impress this girl, maybe he wouldnt have gone if the girl didnt want some thing from there. There are lots of ideas of circulation in the three stories about childhood. At the time that Joyce has set these stories there was a lot of circulation in Dublin, the children would have found it very hard to get out of the way that people wanted them to react and behave. They would have found it hard to find a job for themselves most families had generations of their families in the same job and workplace it would even have been hard for them to leave Dublin and Ireland as there were not great opportunities at that time for these people. All of the children in Dubliners live with their aunt and uncle whether this is because the children have been abandoned by their parents of have left with them due to professional or any other reason is not known, but this shows that there is a great sense of family based groups in Dublin at this time and there may not be a way of getting out of this again, the idea of entrapment and circulation. I believe that children at the time that Joyce wrote the stories of children in the Dubliners were not aware of the dangers of the adult world around them. I think that they are very nai ve and innocent and they have a lot to learn about themselves and those around them. In these particular stories these children discover death, the corruption of adulthood and the opposite sex. These are all very important this in the development towards adolescence and then adulthood. I think that Joyce was very aware of the development of children at this time and I believe that he conveys their youth and naivety very well in the stories that he wrote.

A man and a woman fall in love and make promises to love each other and uphold each other in times of need, to love and to protect each other during whatever storm may crash upon their beach of love and peace. This is what God intended for us. A good husband will give his wife a place to live in this world and a place in his heart; a place that she may call home. He will be held up with her in front of God and will never leave her side. A good husband must trust his wife when he is at work. He must also trust himself to let her be alone and to always trust her no matter what she does to him to make him think other wise, no matter if she kills her husband’s best friend and lies about it and hides the bloody knife under his own pillow. He must trust her in every way. A husband knows he must always protect his loved one and family. He must also show her that he cares by giving his time and love. He must be able to hold her when she cries and tell her that it will be o.k., even if they are both doomed. He must even give up his pride. Pride is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. You will not know it until you see it; If you do not spot the wolf in time and send him away, he will come between you and what you hold dear to your heart. If a man does not give all of his heart and soul to the woman he picks as his wife, then their relationship will have its problems, but what marriage does not have it little bumps from time to time?   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The wife, nature’s Rubics cube, is the one thing that puzzles men to this day. Puzzle or not, all men hope to fall in love with that one. Man, all over the world, hope that she will fulfill his ever dream and fulfill his every need. A wife and her love mean a lot to a man. Men hope that she will share that love with him until she dies. Men hope that their wives will show love and compassion for them when a day has gone bad, and men hope that they can tell her about their bad day, and she will comfort him, no matter if the bad day was just a small thing.

Brain Compatible Strategies

One of the most important avenues of debate when it comes to education is the question on how to make the learning experience in school be also connected with real life. There are many hurdles to answering this question. For example, the feeling of being closed in during learning makes the students feel that school is an entirely different world and is an entirely different experience, and when classes and end and they rejoin the real world, they tend to leave the things that they relate to school in the recesses of their mind and shifts their cognition by turning on the brain they use for real life.This is just one of the many different factors, and because of this reason, experts are consistently looking for a way to ensure that what the children learn is something that they also apply in real life. The effective designing, formulation and use of brain compatible strategies are important in the learning experience of the students; but more importantly, the brain compatible strategi es should also be updated and up to date.As Sousa (2003) explained, â€Å"the sit-down-be-quiet-and-listen model is not compatible with the brains of many students who now cross the thresholds of our schools because the environment has affected the contemporary student brain compared with that of just 20 years ago (Sousa, 2003, p. 101). †The use of brain compatible strategies are strategies which do not just help in the effective teaching and lesson retention inside the classroom; more than that, the application of these approaches of this type of style is also usually connected with approaches that individuals take in real life when they are faced with different scenarios, picking a system which the individual feels is suitable for a particular situation.Because of this, brain compatible strategies help not just in the learning process of school-based education but also close the gap found between school life and real life. According to Karten (2007), one of the basic princi ples of brain-based learning strategy is the use and the presence of the effect of â€Å"activities such as simulations and role (that) provide real-life emotional connections (Karten, 2007, p. 57).† This is one of the proofs that through the use of brain compatible strategies in teaching and in the learning experience of children, the lessons learned are applied in real life, closing the gap found between school life and real life. What is the gap between school life and real life? For some students, the problem with going to school is that they see lessons in school as purely limited for use inside the school or inside formalistic educational grounds.They see math solutions as tools to achieve problems inside the classroom as well as history notes as the key to answer the midterm history exam. The manner by which the students are thought sans brain compatible strategies isolate school life and real life, and when this happens, the students feel that whatever it is they lear n in school is exclusive for school use alone, which should not be the case because the lessons learned in school should be transformed as intellectual tools that should be used in real life so that a person can react correctly and rationally in real life situation.This is the gap present in school life and real life, and there was a point that the gap grew bigger and bigger simply because of the fact that the teaching style does not make the learning experience of the students a way for them to realize that what they learn in school should be applied in real life – that math solutions should be applied for counting changes when buying in a store, that the critical thinking during science experiments should be extended in real life. Take for example the different types of brain compatible strategies being used today.In cooperative learning, the student is learning school based education while at the same time learning the value and use of cooperation between individuals, and because of that, the student transfers this knowledge about cooperation in real life. The same is true with the use of problem-solving, which infuses in the child’s conscious and unconscious mind the need to use critical thinking not just to solve school examinations but real life problems as well (Cooperative Learning, Collaboration, Problem-Solving etc. ), not only increase student learning but also help bridge the gap between school and â€Å"real life.† Experts are inclined also to believe that as much as most people believe that brain compatible strategies for learning should impact not just school-based scenarios but real life as well, the truth is that proponents of brain compatible strategies who teaches this system to teachers are advocating the use of not just school-based examples but also to use real life examples to teach the students how the lessons in school are actually usable as well in real life scenarios and not just limited to school experience.As T ate (2006) explained in her book about integrating brain compatible system in teaching inside the classroom, â€Å"a third way to gain student's attention is to connect the learning to real life. It stands to reason that if the brain was meant to survive in the real world, then the closer a teacher can get the instruction to the real world, the more memorable it becomes (Tate, 2006, p. 51). †Conclusion – The use of brain compatible strategies to teach students today has already garnered many followers, if not something that is already widespread, and people ask why such phenomena occurred. Brain compatible strategies are always changing, based on the changes happening on the target audience, and it is important that everyone is on the same page. Maybe the shift in the education paradigm has happened. Before when education was limited to a select few, the idea was to teach things that cannot be easily learned by sheer experience alone (i. e.technique in arts, formula in sciences, strategies in politics), but now educators are looking the reality that what the students needs is a good dose of traditional educational content and lessons which have practical application to assist in the refinement of the actions and reactions individuals make when faced with circumstances, using the knowledge transmitted and embedded in a child’s brain through the use of brain compatible strategies that closes the gap between school learning and real life learning. Women s Health For Endangered Health Essay - 913 Words

In the chart shown above, persons born in the U.S. with endangered health was 79.76%. The persons not born in the U.S. with endangered health was 73.60% with the grand total of endangered health of the population being 78.88%. The persons born in the U.S. with their health not endangered was 20.24% of the population. The persons not born in the U.S. with their health not endangered was 26.40% of the population with the grand total of health not endangered is 21.12%. All sections equal 100% of the population. Using a Chi Square test, the health endangerment between U.S. born and non U.S. born women were compared. Among 1,176 U.S. born women, 938 had endangered health conditions. Of the 197 immigrant women, 145 women had endangered health conditions. The difference in the health endangerment conditions was statistically significant; x2(1, N=1,373) = 3.840453, p = 0.05. The findings suggest that U.S. born women did not have better health conditions than those who were not born in the U.S. The results of the Chi Square test were 0.050031976, leaving the interpretation to the researcher. The data was marginally significant since it was so close to alpha. More in depth studies need to be completed to get a better idea of whether foreign-born or native born women are healthier. In this case, rejecting the hypothesis would mean native born females are healthier than those who immigrated.
